The Osseo Fire Department has a long and storied history here in Osseo, battling fires and saving lives. And this year marks the 100th year that the Department has been in operation. From the early days of the Fire Department, using the first Osseo Fire Truck (a 1929 REO Speedwagon, similar to the picture below) to today and the modern technology used to battle flames and respond to medical calls, this group of fearless individuals have given everything they have to the City and its residents.
On Saturday, June 20, 2015, the Osseo Fire Department will celebrate its centennial with a big party located at the Osseo Fire Station (415 Central Ave, Osseo). The local street will be closed to allow party goers a chance to see some historical Fire Department items, including one of the original fire trucks as well as the brand new modern fire response vehicles. Food, games and a band will also be on hand to help the Fire Department celebrate in style! Be sure to come out and thank your local firefighters for their service, and don’t forget to bring the kids so they can take a full tour of the station and the emergency response vehicles.
In the early days, the Osseo Fire Department responded to a much larger area encompassing the northwest Twin Cities metro area. Cities include Corcoran, Maple Grove, Brooklyn Park, Dayton, and of course Osseo. Regardless of the weather or temperature, these firefighters braved it all in order to help the community. Records of each and every call were kept meticulously, handwritten with pen and paper, including the date, time, type of call, and who responded.
Now, the Fire Department conducts many educational and outreach events throughout the year. The Department also helps with many City sponsored events, including the March 28 Kids Easter Egg Hunt, the September 11-12 Osseo Lions Roar Days, and the December 4-6 Osseo Minidazzle celebration.
